Blizzard Tests Ray Tracing on the Shadowlands Beta

World of Warcraft is actually going to look really beautiful. NVIDEA is working on a new technique called Ray Tracing.

Nvidia has released a newGeForce Driverthat “provides optimal support for the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands pre-patch on the public test realm”, introducing ray-traced visual effects to the game.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique for generating an image by tracing the path of light as pixels in an image plane and simulating the effects of its encounters with virtual objects. The technique is capable of producing a high degree of visual realism, more so than typical scanline rendering methods, but at a greater computational cost. (Source)

Ray Tracing is currently disabled on both the Shadowlands PTR and Beta, however they may be enabled after this week’s build.

“Our newest GeForce Game Ready driverbrings you support for Microsoft Flight Simulator, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, A Total War Saga: TROY, and the upcoming World of Warcraft Shadowlands Beta. And support for 8 new G-SYNC Compatible gaming monitors.
