In an exclusive interview with 4Players, Rod Fergusson dropped some noteworthy insights about Diablo 4. While many fans have been speculating about the potential addition of Blood Knights, Fergusson made it clear that no such plans are in the pipeline.
During the interview, Fergusson underscored the distinction between Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal, quelling any rumors about a crossover or shared themes. He emphasized that the appearance of a vampire-themed season in Diablo 4 is merely coincidental, reassuring fans that the two games have their separate trajectories.
“Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal are two very different games with two very different teams and two different technologies. So it’s more of a coincidence that the team had this type of vampire. It kind of adjusted over time. But no, the Blood Knight will not appear in Diablo 4.” Fergusson informed 4Players
Diablo 4 PTR
Discussing the development process, Fergusson delved into their approach to testing and community feedback for Diablo 4. While Public Test Realms (PTRs) have been a staple in Blizzard’s game development cycle, Fergusson revealed that they are treading a different path this time. The team is cautious about the potential drawbacks of PTR testing, as it can extend the development timeline and hinder the release of patches. However, Fergusson assured the community that they are actively seeking ways to enhance the feedback loop and create a more fluid exchange of ideas.
“It took us ten years to put that into Diablo 3. One of the nice things about the other installments in the series is that we can look back and see what worked, and even Immortal has interesting things that they do in the game.” While there are no plans to roll out PTR for Diablo 4, the General Manager is not completely ruling it out for the future: “So we never say never, but we always have different priorities at different times.”
