Former Blizzard exec’s have just announced the launch of a new game development company Dreamhaven. They also announce the launch of two new studios, Moonshot Games and Secret Door. The company is lead by Mike Morhaime, who is known for being one of the founders of Blizzard entertainment and was President of the company for a long time. Next to Morhaime, Blizzard veterans like Dustin Browder join the team. Other noteworthy names are Jason Chayes, Ben Thompson, Chris Sigaty, Alan Dabiri and Eric Dodds.
Moonshot Games will be lead by Jason Chayes, Ben Thompson and Dustin Browder, while Secret Door will be helmed by Chris Sigaty, Alan Dabiri and Eric Dodds. This is huge news for Blizzard fans, since these developers are now free to make the games they want to make. It is believed that the larger part of these developers left Blizzard after the Activision acquisition and their influence on the company.
Mike Morhaime had the following to say:
“I’m excited to team up with such talented people who care deeply about games and their communities,” said Dreamhaven CEO Mike Morhaime. “I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries. With Dreamhaven, we look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”
Next to that the statement talks about creating original gaming experiences that foster meaningful connections between players, a statement that Morhaime has said before when creating World of Warcraft at Blizzard.
At this moment in time it is unclear what type of game the companies will be making, but since all directors have a Blizzard background, we can assume some kind of RPG will be in the works.
