It appears that new players joining Season of Discovery in World of Warcraft are required to play in “Self-Found mode” for their first month in the game.
According to a post by Yryadorne (Blizzard) on the official World of Warcraft Forum, new accounts are restricted from trading gold, mailing gold, or using the auction house during the first month of their Season of Discovery adventure. This restriction is similar to the one imposed when purchasing WoW tokens.
This rule aims to stop bots, but it means new players in Season of Discovery have to play in Self-Found Mode, which takes away a lot of the social side of the game.
Hey all, and sorry for the confusion.
We currently have a restriction on new accounts playing Season of Discovery,similar to the purchase of WoW tokens87.
This means that if this is your first time adding game time on your WoW account (and if the game time was added recently), you will not be able to trade with other players, use the auction house or in-game mails.
Once this period of 30 days has ended, the restrictions will be lifted automatically. If you’re still seeing restrictions after that however, you will need to log out of your account for at least 12 hours.
Hope this clear things up.
Edit: Thank you to the players who reported seeing the restrictions after following the above instructions. This has been forwarded to our developers.
What is Self-Found in World of Warcraft?
Self-found is a mode for players who avoid any interaction with other players. When following this set of rules, you are not allowed to do the following:
* Trade with other players
* Send or receive mail
* Buy or sell from the auction house
During BlizzCon 2023, they confirmed the introduction of solo self-found for WoW Classic Hardcore, with a scheduled launch window set for 2024. Solo Self-Found (SSF) was already a favored ruleset for Classic servers in World of Warcraft, players are now incorporating the solo self-found approach into their hardcore runs. Some players found the Classic hardcore mode a bit too easy, so this adds an extra layer of complexity to the game. Now, new Season of Discovery players must follow the same path as Hardcore players for their first 30 days.
