During an interview with IGN, Rod Fergusson discusses Diablo 4’s Season 4 potentially serving as a turnaround for the game, akin to what happened with Diablo 3 when Loot 2.0 was introduced.
Diablo 4 has seen its fair share of ups and downs. Many players have voiced their opinions on various platforms and provided valuable feedback to the team. Concerns arose regarding the in-game shop, with many items being deemed too expensive. In response, the Diablo team introduced “Fortunate Finds,” which offers personalized discounts of up to 50% for players.
With the game’s first Public Test Realm and preparations for Season 4 in progress, there’s hope that these developments could signal a fresh start for the game.

During an interview with IGN, Wesley Yin-Pool asked Rod Fergusson if it’s reasonable to consider Season 4 of Diablo 4 as a clean slate, similar to a version 1.0 launch:
“I’ve seen that. I’ve seen other things some people have said, like this is Diablo 5 now, because it’s so fundamental. I think what they’re speaking to is the scope. It is a foundational change. Diablo is a game about getting loot. It is part of the core loop: kill monster, get loot, become more powerful, kill bigger monster, get better loot, become more powerful. It is an intrinsic part of our game loop.” Fergussons said.
Fergusson also noted reading an article discussing the release of the pre-patch for Diablo 3’s Reapers of Souls expansion, which introduced Loot 2.0, and how it was called ‘Diablo 4’ at that time
“What was funny is I actually went back and read an article on when Reaper of Souls came out, and they were saying, Reaper of Souls is now Diablo 4. Like, literally the same headline! ‘Diablo 4 is now Diablo 5,’ they were saying, ‘Diablo 3 is now Diablo 4 because of loot 2.0.’”
