Blizzard will soon close their offices in Versailles, according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, whom is known for breaking insider news. This decision comes after months of turbulence within the company, after the massive lay offs in 2019.
The office in France handled marketing, customizer service, localization and other tasks for the European market. According to the report, A recent restructure had converted half the staff to be part of Activision Blizzard, instead of just working for Blizzard, which shows that Activision has a huge influence on the company and is probably the reason of the closure.
Initially, the company wanted to relocate half of the staff to their location in London, but the pandemic and Brexit have thrown a spanner in the works for these plans. As of yet, we do not know how many people will lose their jobs, or how many people will relocate, but Bloomberg reports that the French labor laws enforces companies to give a significant compensation package if there is a mass layoff.
The employees that told Schreier about the news in secret, also report that they will learn more about their faith in the coming weeks.
