Activision Blizzard has announced that their Survival game has been canceled. The Survival game was teased back in 2022 when Blizzard was looking for new talent to work on the new IP. Now, the day that 1900 people have been fired at Microsoft, the studio announces the cancelation of the new IP.
The new IP didn’t have a name yet, but was the first new IP for the company since Overwatch debuted in 2016. Since most of the 1900 developers were affected over at the division of Activision Blizzard, the game got canceled and part of the work force will work on other new games from the company.
Today’s news affects multiple teams at the company, including development teams, service organizations and corporate functions, says Matt Booty, head of Xbox Studios. “As part of this focus, Blizzard is ending development on its survival game project and will be shifting some of the people working on it to one of several promising new projects Blizzard has in the early stages of development.”
Booty also announced that Blizzard president Mike Ybarra wil leave the company, as well as chief design officer Allen Adham.
I want to thank everyone who is impacted today for their meaningful contributions to their teams, to Blizzard, and to players’ lives. It’s an incredibly hard day and my energy and support will be focused on all those amazing individuals impacted – this is in no way a reflection…
