Bungie removing in-game currency in new Destiny 2 DLC

Bungie is making changes to Destiny 2‘s in-game economy by getting rid of Legendary Shards. This change will begin with Season 23 and will be fully implemented when Destiny 2’s The Final Shape DLC is released.

Bungie explained in their This Week in Destiny blog post that the removal of Legendary Shards in Destiny 2 will start with Season 23. Initially, Bungie will no longer require players to spend Legendary Shards to obtain items from the Monument to Lost Lights. However, other materials will still be necessary to acquire Exotic weapons from the Monument. Guardians won’t need Legendary Shards for ritual gear focusing anymore. Instead, focusing will only cost glimmer and extra engrams, with the exception of Trials of Osiris and Nightfall Adept weapons, which will require additional materials.

Legendary Shards have been an important part of the game’s economy, with many players having thousands of them in their inventory. However, they can be quickly depleted, leading some players to find ways to farm them, which Bungie has consistently addressed. As a result, Bungie aims to eliminate this imbalance by completely removing Legendary Shards from the game.
