Starfield, the highly anticipated game, is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S and PC. With Bethesda now under the ownership of Microsoft, it comes as no surprise that the title will be exclusive to Microsoft’s consoles. However, the possibility of Starfield making its way to PlayStation 5 has been a subject of talks and speculation. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, fans eagerly await any news regarding a potential cross-platform release.
During the recent FTC case concerning the Activision Blizzard acquisition, Pete Hines, a representative from Bethesda, had an opportunity to share insights. One question posed to him was whether Starfield would see a release this year if it wasn’t exclusively available for Xbox and PC.
Hines responded with the indication that such a scenario was highly unlikely. If the game were also planned for release on PlayStation 5, it would not have been ready within the next 9 weeks. The team’s focus on a limited number of platforms has proved advantageous, allowing them to streamline testing efforts and allocate resources more efficiently.
If Starfield was not exclusive, would it come out this year?
"In my opinion, no, this game would not be coming out in 9 weeks if we were supporting an entirely different platform."
